WhatsApp Introduces New Feature: Block Messages from Unknown Senders
WhatsApp has launched a new update through the Google Play Beta program, introducing a new security feature called Block messages from unknown accounts. This feature aims to block incoming messages from unknown senders.
Currently, the feature is available to some beta users, with plans to expand it to more users in the coming weeks. According to a report from WABetaInfo, this feature allows users to automatically block messages from unknown accounts that send large volumes of messages within a short period.
To enable this feature, users can go to WhatsApp's privacy settings, select Advanced settings, and activate the Block unknown account messages option.
Once enabled, WhatsApp will automatically block messages from unknown accounts that exceed a high number of messages, providing protection from spam or harmful messages. It is important to note that the feature does not block all messages from unknown accounts randomly but focuses on accounts that send excessive messages in a short time frame, allowing users to still receive important messages from unknown contacts while keeping their devices protected from spam.
Additionally, the system will automatically lift the block when the message rate returns to normal, ensuring accounts are not permanently blocked, only those displaying suspicious behavior.
WhatsApp recommends users activate this feature if they notice receiving many messages from unknown accounts, as it helps protect against phishing attempts or spam messages.
This feature is still being rolled out gradually and is currently available to some beta users who have updated the app to the latest version from Google Play. This move is part of WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to reduce annoying activities for its users, marking the second such initiative revealed within a month.
