Snap has announced a partnership with Google to leverage its advanced AI models, incorporating them into the My AI assistant on Snapchat. This integration of Google’s Gemini AI models is expected to significantly enhance the assistant’s performance and expand its capabilities.
Snapchat first introduced the My AI chatbot in 2023, powered by OpenAI’s GPT models. However, the upgrade to Gemini will enable the assistant to better comprehend and work with text, images, and videos, which is expected to increase daily engagement with users.
Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO, stated in a press release, "This partnership with Google Cloud strengthens everything essential to serving our community. Snap’s mission is to empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, explore the world, and have fun together."
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added, "Gemini models are now powering millions of multimedia interactions on Snapchat daily, allowing users to engage more effectively with My AI, with built-in accuracy and safety features."
Thanks to the advanced Gemini models, My AI will assist users in taking photos or videos of anything and asking questions about them. These features are similar to tools Google already offers.
It’s also noteworthy that the partnership between Google and Snap has spanned over a decade, long before generative AI became widely accessible to the public.
